November '06 - Ioannis Stellas's 490 Liter Discus Tank. (Greece)

Owner:Ioannis Stellas, 34, from Athens (Greece), 10 years of fishkeeping.
Setup:July 2006
Dimensions:139x50x70 cm.
Volume: 490 L (nominal), 365 L (effective) + 85 L sump.
Filtration:Sump with 6 L of substrat pro and 2x Eheim 1260 pumps regulated to have ~3000 L/h.
Lighting:2x Arcadia Plant Pro + 1x Osram FQ 54W/865. Also have 2x cold cathode blue used for moonlight.
Heating:2x Jager 200 W each.
Substrate:Sera Floredepot, API First pure laterite and 55 kg of gravel 1-3 mm.
Decoration:Many pieces of wood (mangrove, mopani).
Others:5 L pressurized CO2, Aquamedic Reactor 1000, IKS pH controller, Eliwell temperature controller (connected with the Jagers and 5 fans for cooling in Summer), DIY sunrise/sunset for the lighting, DIY top off system.
Water:Temp 28C, pH 6.5, KH 2, GH 3-4, CO2 19 ppm, PO4 0.5 ppm, Fe 0.3 ppm, NO3 20 ppm.
Maintenance:Water change of 180 L/week (80% RO), every day dosage of Seachem Flourish with liquidoser, adding Fe once a week. Also I add K2HPO4 and K2SO4 as needed.
Fauna:3x Symphysodon aequifasciatus (1 Blueface male, 1 Rainbow female, 1 Gold Dragon), 1x Symphysodon heckeli, 10x Paracheirodon axelrodi, 4x Parailia pellucida, 1x Noturus exilis, 5x Corydoras aeneus, 4x Corydoras aeneus albino, 6x Corydoras panda, 5x Corydoras sterbai, 5x Dekeyseria brachyura (Butterfly Pleco L168), 3x Ancistrus sp., 10x Otocinclus arnoldi, 2x Pangio kuhlii, 1x Pseudogastromyzon myersi, 25x Caridina japonica, 5x Pomacea bridgesii, 5x Neritina natalensis.
Flora:Anubias barteri var. barteri, Anubias barteri var. nana, Anubias heterophylla, Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae, Cryptocoryne wendtii "brown", Cryptocoryne wendtii "green", Echinodorus bleheri, Eusteralis stellata (Pogostemon stellata), Ludwigia repens "Rubin", Nymphaea lotus (zenkeri), Sagittaria subulata, Vallisneria americana (natans), Vesicularia dubyana (Java moss).
Comments:

By keeping lots of plants I keep my water always crystal clear. I do regular water changes once a week and by adding the fertilisation the plants need, they do very well. My paired Discus breed almost every week, but unfortunately they haven't kept the fry alive for more than 2 weeks.
