April '06 - Marc Van Rompay's 400 L Planted Aquarium. (Belgium)
This month we feature a nice, big, colorful planted tank that is nontheless quite easy to setup and maintain. Belgian aquarist Marc Van Rompay tells us what it's like to own this very exemplary aquarium:
|Owner:||Marc Van Rompay, 30, from Berlaar, Belgium, 5 years of fishkeeping.|
|Volume:|| 400 L (effective).|
|Filtration:||Juwel Jumbo internal filter (1000 L/h).|
|Lighting:||1 Dennerle Trocal Plant de Luxe 36 W and 1 Dennerle Color Plus.|
|Heating:||Hydor Theo 300 W.|
|Substrate:||Carat 3 aquariumgrind.|
|Decoration:||2 large pieces of wood, some stones.|
|Others:||Carbo plus installation to keep the plants happy.|
|Water:||Temp 27░C, pH 6.5, KH 2, GH 8, CO2 21 ppm.|
|Maintenance:||Water change of 100 L/week, lowering pH with Aqua-Rio Oak Extract, every day a few drops of Aqua-Plant Activator 24, weekly adding of Aqua Plant Plus Fe.|
|Fauna:||5 Kryptopterus bicirrhis,
6 Melanotaenia boesemani,
5 Carnegiella strigata,
20 Paracheirodon axelrodi,
4 Otocinclus affinis,
10 Crossocheilus siamensis,
2 Botia morleti,
2 Corydoras sterbai,
2 Albino Corydoras,
5 Pangio kuhlii.
By keeping lots of plants and a limited number of fish, the water always is in perfect condition. Since the beginning of the setup I only lost one fish and apparently he was already sick when I brought him into his new home. All the other fish are growing very well and are all in good shape. As you see, you don't need any expensive CO2 installations to make your plants grow. I just have a cheap Carbo Plus installation and with the right care the plants do very well.

How about one of these to decorate your room?
