May '05 - Planted Tanks: Small to Large II

Setup: May 2004.

Volume: 75 liters (nominal)

Filtration: Eclipse 2 system, with an added EHEIM fine filter pad to aid the Eclipse filter cartridge in retaining the finer particles.

Lighting: Eclipse 2 hood.

Substrate: River sand.

Decoration: driftwood, petrified wood, smooth river rocks.

Fauna: 10 Ember Tetras, 3 Bloodfin Tetras, 1 Dwarf Gourami, 1 Sunburst Platy +1 baby, 1 Burmese Border Botia.

Maintenance: Water change 10% per week (distilled water).

Comments: This is my first tank and I'm really enjoying the hobby. Soon I'd like to increase the size to maybe 200 liters.

Tank size: 39x30x76 cm, 92 Liters (nominal).

Setup: April 2000.

Filtration: Fluval 2 with enlarged filter box.

Lighting: 4x18W fluorescent.

Substrate: loam and fine sand mixed with expanded vermiculite.

Decoration: Driftwood, blue plastic paper background.

Water: NO2 0 ppm, NO3 0-2 ppm, PO3 0-0.02 ppm, K 2 ppm, Fe 0.1 ppm (chelated).

Maintenance: Water change 10% every fortnight. Daily fertilisation with Potassium (K) and trace elements.

Plants: Cryptocoryne wendtii “brown”, Anubias barteri var. nana, Bacopa carolina, Ceratopteris thalictroides (water sprite), Echinodorus bleheri (paniculatus), Echinodorus quadricostatus “magdalenensis”, Hydrocotyle leucocephala, Ludwigia repens, Nymphaea lotus (tiger lotus), Sagittaria subulata, Vesicularia dubyana, Vallisneria americana var. biwaensis.

Fishes: Chinese Algae Eater (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri), Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), Rummy-nose tetra (Hemigrammus rhodostomus), Cardinal tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi), Siamese Algae Eater (Crossocheilus siamensis).

Comments: DIY CO2 injection. Plants are planted according to their light requirements.
