December '03 - Densely Planted Tanks

In these tanks the plants are already the dominant feature in the aquascape, although there's still some room for rocks, wood and open spaces. Notice the difference in style between the two examples below, the first one concentrates tall plants to one side and open space on the other, while the second one is more evenly spaced in terms of plant distribution.

"This is my new freshwater tank and although very light on fish stocking at the moment, I think the aquascaping is quite unique. The sand shelves are confined by a silicone and perspex construction and then covered in slate. Since the pictures were taken I have added a few Angelfish to the setup and the dwarf chain swords have virtually covered the base of the tank." - Tim Mortlock

Dimensions:92x30x46 cm.
Filtration:Rena Filstar XP1.
Lighting:2x30 W Philips ColourTone 5000K + 2x30 W Philips Daylight 6750K.
Substrate:Normal aquarium gravel laced with laterite.
Fertilization:5 ml/week Tropica Master Grow, 6-8 Root Tabs/month, CO2 Injection - 1 bubble/second.
Flora:Echinodorus amazonicus, Rotala indica, Cabomba caroliniana, Echinodorus sp. 'Rose', Echinodorus quadricostatus 'magdalenensis', Hygrophila polysperma, Ludwigia arcuata, Ludwigia glandulosa 'perennis', Cardamine lyrata.
Fauna:3 SAE's (Crossocheilus siamensis), 3 Black Mollies (Poecilia sphenops), 4 Boeseman's Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia boesemani), 1 Pleco, 1-30 Molly fry.
