My girlfriend and I got two kuhlis at christmas time because I expressed a desire for them after having them as a kid back in the mid-1970's, and we were not disappointed! They still are just as cute and love our dark apartment, so they are out quite often. (Though one more so than the other). They get along well with 3 zebras, two guppies and two albino catfish, though they prefer each other's company. They live in a little castle, in which they can only get in and out through the small front door, and it's pretty amusing to watch them pop in and out of the little door hole. :)
They also do what I consider a very strange thing: they will 'hang' on the plastic trees, looking like two socks hung out on a clothesline!
These are one of my favorite fish. Their behavior is amusing and they are really personable. Mine will swim into my hand if I keep it still by the glass. When I sit and stare at my aquarium, they'll come up and rest on a plant near the glass, checking me out. They used to wake me up every night, trying to swim into my Sandman filter. Now, they've taken up residence inside an african fern "tree" that's growing on a piece of driftwood...they look like pythons in a tree...Every now and then they'll freak out and speed around the tank recklessly...it's too funny...
I have had a kuhli loach now for about three months. He's a really friendly guy, the only problem I have have noticed with him as with the last few I've had is that they like to hide inside of the filters you suction to the wall. I have also noticed that they are happier in pairs. I think they are a great starter fish but hard to catch. The only other problem with this fish that I have found is that other fish like to pick on it.
I have had kuhli loaches in my large cichlid tank for over a year now, and they are still alive and doing well. They own the space under a volcano cave, but swim around the tank at night. They are predators of eggs and young that the fish don't seem to realize are a threat some of the time.
I have 2 Kuhli Loaches in my growing 175 Liter Community aquarium. They love to hide in the dark slate nooks and crannies, and swim against the current of my filter. I enjoy watching them slither through the water, itīs really Kuhl! :-)
Kuhli loaches are the best fish I have owned. I have 2 of them and want more. Kuhli loaches clean your tank really well and I love them. They are so much fun to watch. My loaches are very active and I have never had any kind of problem with them.
