Nothobranchius guentheri 'gold'
Name: Nothobranchius guentheri
Origin: Zanzibar (Tanzania)
I have been keeping N. guentheri for a few weeks now. He is my first killifish and I'm so excited to have him! I found him at a shop in New Jersey. He was in a 40 L, dimly lit tank in the store, and his colors were not so bright. After a few weeks of feeding him a diet of live blackworms and frozen bloodworms he is much more colorful. I might add that sometimes he'll even eat the shrimp's food pellets. So I guess he is somewhat omnivorous? I have found him to be pretty territorial, fierce even. The first day I got him he attacked our bamboo shrimp. Now that shrimp always hides. He seems to have backed off of the shrimp now (which may be a result of having a constant supply of food) He looks at the smaller shrimp that are in the tank but hasn't eaten any of them yet. If I did this again I might keep him in a species only tank with no other males. But right now he enjoys this 180 L paludarium (half aquarium/half terrarium) as he has a lot of space to himself!
