Name: Julidochromis transcriptus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika (Africa)
We've had these fish for a year, since setting up our tank. We have 3 and we must have 2 males and 1 female. They are a very peaceful fish and keep to themselves. They tend to swim on the bottom of the tank more than above, swim inside of rocks and small holes, and seem to enjoy clinging to rocks. We have been very fortunate that they are breeding constantly. We have in the past 4 months had 4-5 batches, which are all hatched, born inside a hollow tree stump in the tank. The parents are very protective with their babies around the area and will snap at any size fish who tries to enter their territory. The first batch of babies we collected are now 1-2 cm. There are 2-3 different sizes of babies, so we think they have had at least 3 more litters at seperate times. They are keeping them under the filter and have made a little community, which is getting larger every month. It's a pleasure to watch them in the tank as they are so dedicated to their family.
