I am a fan of plecos and I have a bunch of them. This is one of my favorites. They are sometimes sold under the common name silky pleco. They behave like a bristlenose. Mine is not shy at all, he goes wherever he pleases, mostly nibbling on root wood.

The Peppermint Bristlenose (A. hoplogenys) is a very beautiful fish, it is jet black with white spots all over the body. I have one of these little guys, they don't grow as fast as the more common Ancistrus. These fish require a well oxygenated, mature aquarium. Bogwood and swordplants should be included in the decor. Breeding is difficult. The peppermint bristlenose demands a higher price than the more common Ancistrus sp.
