I live in Ohio and am preparing my outside pond for winter. Last year the comets came inside but they have grown much to big for the tank so they have to stay outside. The water temp is around 58-60F. What do I need to do so they can stay outside? The winters here are never the same so I can't guess how cold or bad it will get.

I know what you mean about Ohio winters. Smile

How deep is the pond? If it is too shallow for them to overwinter, you might consider a set up similar to the one Matt describes here.

It is 3 feet in the deepest spot and is around 80 or so gallons. I am not sure the volume so that is a guess but I do know the depth.

That might be deep enough for them to overwinter in the pond. Did the pond freeze solid last winter?

If you haven't already, you might want to check out Robyn's site. There are articles and links about winterizing a pond.
