I have been in freswater planted tank for 4 years. I'm planning to set-up a 55G planted tank and maybe converting my old freshwater 25G to a reef tank.

Since my tank height is only 16 inches, I was thinking that I could use my actual canopy. It can drive 4X20W fluorescent bulbs. I was thinking about having only mushrooms or soft corals. If I use a 3-4 inches sand bed, it will also reduce the height from 16 to 12-13.

Can 1 X Actinic, 1 X 10 000K and 2 X Daylight, do the job ???

What do you think ?

80 watts on a 25 gallon tank isnt horrible lighting, you should be able to keep some hardy lower lighting corals in there. Mushrooms and most polyp species are best. But make sure you do a lot of research on saltwater tanks prior to getting into this, cycle it well before stocking and only add a couple of very small fish.
