I don't hold out much hope, but I thought I would try.

Tonight, I wandered in to feed my fish and noticed one of my goldfish was acting oddly, then I noticed the half eaten wasp. I assume he's eaten the wasp and has been stung, or is having a bad reaction to the sting toxin.

Currently he is gasping for air, trying to loge himself behind the fliter or trying to jump out and is floating belly up. He is acting like he is in pain.

I assume there is not much I can do, but is there anything!! (besides close all the windows to stop anymore wasps getting in)

Oil of clove is an anesthetic, it also will kill the fish if too much is given.

10 drops will kill a 2" fish, maybe you could dab a drop on his mouth.

Google Oil of clove and fish and see if you come up with more, I know it is used to calm koi for injections and such.

10 drops of clove oil per litre of water for 1 1/2 hours is a lethal dose, decapitation or a blow to the brain is usually used afterwards to make sure...

I'm afraid euthenasia is a real possiblity, I've seen fish eat wasps and bees before, and needless to say, I've never seen one get better I'm afraid. Sad

I have a 1500 gal outdoor pond and wasps land on the surface of the water quite regularly in the summer. My orfe usually get to them before the other fish and eat them without any problems.

the problem with that is though, the orfe are just eating them right up, which shouldn't cause a problem, however, stinging is a different matter.

Thanks for the replys..Smile

My poor fish died sometime during that night. The other large goldfish in that tank died this morning. His belly was really slowlen, and he's scales were 'pineconed'.. I'm assuming he ate some of the wasp as well..Sad

Swollen bellies and pineconed scales are the exact symptoms of dropsy-

Perhaps they died of this?
