I want to take my carbon filter pad from my aquaclear which is on my established aquarium and pop it in my penguin bio wheel in my new tank to kick start the cycling process. I tossed like 2 tablespoons of gravel. But was wondering if this would work as well, and if so, how long from your experiences does this quicken the process. I mean does this prevent ammonia build and stuff. and just quickly go to the third phase? I have a 20 gallon and have 6 danios?

The more matured filter media and gravel (from the topmost surface layer of course) and plant leaf surfaces you can add, the faster the new system will cycle in. Two spoonsful of gravel isn't really very generous.

But all tanks cycle...

.

.

...eventually.
