My friend is going to get a bigger tank and he wondered if he could put his 6'' Violet Goby in my twenty gallon. In my twenty gallon tank I have eight tetras, 3 danios, a pleco and a cory cat and my tank has a pH around 7.4., temperature 78 degrees.

I have done some research and my information seems to contradict itself. So I was wondering if anyone with some experience might be able to tell me if this situation is possible. Will the Goby eat my small fish?

Also, I don't want to add any salt to my aquarium (dangerous to tetras), so would the Goby be alright in my non-brackish tank? I know that many fish have evolved so they can live in either brackish or freshwater, but could the Violet Goby do alright?

Not sure about the salt....but I can almost promise you that the goby will love your other tankmates. They'll make fine snacks.

Does your friend want the goby back? Is this a temporary situation? Or permanent?

the violet goby (aka blue dragon goby) is a brackish fish in the whild, and will do much better with salt in his water, your tetras will not do so well with salt in the tank, ....

and yes, your fish will become snacks....

Thanks for the responses; I guess I won't do it then.

Actually, my friend will want his goby back, so it would only be a temporary situation.
