Kribs are pretty easy. You can sex them pretty young, so you can often just select a male and female out of a LFS store. If not, the buy a small group of juvie trick works fine, too. They appreciate a planted tank, but it's not necessary. Clay pots are perfect for mock-caves for their spawning behavior. Shoot for middle-of-the-road water conditions, and remember consistency is more important than matching their wild habitat. That tank size should be fine if you're going to do it species-only. They act like most south americans (even though their west african) when breeding, and show similar aggression levels.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering if they would eat their own eggs/fry if they have nothing to protect them from.

No, they don't eat the eggs or fry. They actually raise the fry up to a certain point and it's pretty cool to watch. The female will take the fry around the tank. After a month the fry stop following her (and she stops watching over them) and become more independent. Wink

The female sometimes becomes very aggressive toward the male after spawning. It's best to remove him, unless the aquarium is fairly large. Sometimes the pair will work together in raising the fry. (Note: Kribs might kill all the inhabitants in your tank after spawning to protect the fry!)
