OK I got these tini inverts that live in my tank. the easiest way to see them is by looking at this small piece or red algae that grows almost like a red plant. its very decorative and you can easily spot these mostly white critters they seem to be small enough to fit on a pencil earser and could probably easily cover the area of this "o" that about how big they are. never had any problems from them never seen them on my fish or any of my other inverts. I somtimes see the smaller ones on the glass in the crushed coral substrate. are these anthipods or copepods? also are sand fleas actually anthipods? what are sand fleas? these critters are smaller than sand fleas and don't look like them just in case I got you all confused. I will try to get a pic but my dads in brazil working and hes got the camera. what are these tini critters.

You have Amphipod's and Copepods. That's a good thing its usually the sign of a healthy tank. Sand Fleas are a Parasitic form of Amphipod. They attach to fish and...well they just act like fleas. They can kill a fish if they are infested enough with them. I haven't heard of sand fleas in a fish tank, but there are many other parasitic infections(ICK) that are common. Most Pods are pretty harmless.

well it amazes me that mandarins can live off these tini creatures. I only now and then find larger ones but I can find usually 100 ones that could sit on the tip of a needle. there always around my algae especialy the green algae.

Well those are just the ones you see. They are nocturnal so they hide during the day. There's most likely several thousand in a well established tank.

I have a nice population of a dozen or two near half inch ones in my refugium.

the biggest I see are about 3-4mm long. no big ones. I guess my shrimp and my gobie pick them off once they get big enough.
