Check this out I am starting up a 30 gallon breeder reef tank. OK, this the deal I have a wisper on my ten gallon right now and do like it; I am looking for a new filter for this new tank. Has anyone tried Skilter, bigger Wispers, Emperor filters. Your opinons are highly vauled. Next the skimmer sounds like every one in here likes the prism one. Well thanks for the help. Question

Yes, Prizms are very nice.

What exactly are you planning to breed?

I think by breeder he means tank size. 30 gal breeder,40 breeder, and 50 . Usually means 3 foot tank that is 18 inches deep. They make excellent reef tanks.

I've never heard anything good about a skilter. IF its going to be a true reef tank. Get a mud filter or refugium. that combined with a DSB and live rock should be all you need.

Yes, it's going to be a reef tank its 3 feet long, 1 foot tall, and 18 inches wide. It's shallow, long, and wide thats why I am doing it. Whats a mud or refugium filter, and how do I set one up. Thanks a lot for helping me out everyone. Very Happy

Here's a good link that's tell you all you need to know and more about mud filters

http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/html/natural_april2001.html

And here's a good refugium link.

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/3389/reeftank/refugium.html

They incorporate a lot of the sames things. Its mostly a manner of preferance.

I use a 6 gallon Hang on Back Refugium full of Macro Algae on my 55 gallon
