Curious as to what goldfish would be alright living in a 10G (if any?)

Thanks for any help.

A 10 gallon tank is more suitable for use as a hospital tank. But if you were to keep goldies... one goldie would be the maximum recommended. One fancy goldie (not a single-tail like a common or comet) would be okay if you are experienced and extra diligent maintaining and monitoring your water parameters. In a 10 gallon tank, water condition can quickly go awry before you can catch it...which can prove lethal.

I would recommend getting at least a 20 gallon long tank though. Very Happy

I have to agree. A fancy type will not mind the lack of swimming space so much, but eventually they will outgrow it, and you're looking at large water changes at least once or twice a week.

Hi there guys, I'm from Australia so don't deal in gallons. But when I convert the ten gallon tanks you talk about to litres, I get an answer around 37 litres. I don't know if I'm mislead here but 37 litres of water seems a lot of water for just 1 goldfish. I'm dealing in US gallons (liquid) in case you wanted to know

Yes, but goldfish produce a lot of waste comparatively and thus put a heavy demand on your system. Also when you consider that if given proper care, they will grow (and grow quickly) to about 7 inches (excluding tail) for fancies and 12 inches for commons/comets.

Can you imagine that size of a fish in a 10 gallon tank?? 10 gallons is definitely the minimum required tank space to properly care for a goldfish in the long-term. Very Happy

Hmmm, OK. don't know what you guys feed your fish but I've never seen a goldfish get that big. You buy carp here that are as big as 12 inches, but bout the biggest actual comet I've seen may be around 5 or 6 inches. Maybe I just havent seen enough of the goldfish world. hmmm interesting. Shocked

Check out these pics of some fancy goldies (not extraordinarily large):

Also, check out this page for a pic of "Bruce" the giant goldfish.
