Hey guys. I was at Petsmart to get a backround for my tank and saw in the goldfish tanks they each had a half of a slice of orange in there tank. What is this for? Just wondering out of curiousity. Thanks.

The obvious of course. However, I figure it must serve as something special or certain nutrient because usually they just get flakes like the other fish. Like the mollies have salt in their tank, and gooldfish have orange slices now and then. Any reason why they get oranges and no others get them?

I suppose it would be for the vitamin c and other vitamins and nutrients in oranges, I'm not sure. I feed my goldfish a range of fruit occasionally, not because I know theyre benifitting from it but because I just like to experiment and see what they like and what they don't.

I haven't heard of giving citrus fruits to goldfish, but I just thought I'd ask if it's possible that the slices were zucchini. Zucchini is a pretty common food for herbivorous fish.

If you ever go back and ask, let us know!

ophie, I know I'm missing something, but why would zuchinni look like an orange? I think of zuchinni as a cucumber looking green squash......

Just found out vitamin c is used to treat fish with 'scoliosis'. Possibly might be used to treat other illnesses induced by vitamin deficiency.
