Posted: 2003.05.26(Mon)22:37 Post subject: Cleaning a Used Saltwater Aquarium? |
|
|
This weekend, I managed to get my hands on a large (135 gallon) tank. The previous owner used it as a saltwater aquarium. The glass has a thick haze on it. I tried the razor blade treatment on a small patch of the tank, and while I noticed the calcium build-up shaved off, the area was still hazy. I went to the LFS and they suggested CLR.
Any other ideas on how to clean this tank up?
Best regards,

I've used CLR, and was surprised to find that it didn't kill all the fish.
However, it didn't help with the hardwater deposits, either.
I wish I did know a good way to really clean the glass with ease. I've got about 50 tanks that are about useless for anything but breeding, and if I could clean them up they'd be worth something. |

I agree with Karlas. I have a 85G Marine tank and When I clean my powerheads etc, I let them soak in vigear for bout 30mins. Try the same on the glass. _________________ 85 Gallon Marine Tank

Hey wWilliam, CLR does work, Vinegar does work and so does Kaboom. I've got some and used it on the inside of my new 20g long tank and it did a really nice job. Now all I have to do is figure out what I'm going to do with it. Just make sure you rins it out thoroughly and you should be fine _________________ "Feminae bene moratea historiam raro faciunt" |

If you're planning on setting that up in your living room, I would be more concerned about leaks than getting the glass clean... I've had bad experiences with used tanks, esp. bigger ones, but that's just me. _________________ Keepin' marines happy for 25 years |
