As I have learned, a (fairly deep) koi pond should be at least 1 000 gal. The gallon amount for koi depends on the measurements, and the measurements depend on the climate.
Koi live a very long time, be sure you want to keep them for your (possibly whole) life before purchasing. _________________ Suffering from intense study syndrome.. Have to keep plugging away at my masters.... |

At least 80cm(31.5") deep for big kois...
It depends on how much kois you pretend to keep... About 40"x40" surface area for each big koi....
OK?? |

I have a koi pond in my back yard it is 5'x3' and about 3 feet deep, I have kept koi in there for about 5 years or so, and I have noticed that as the koi get older (about a foot long) they begin trying to find larger bodies of water, unfortunatly they do this by leaping out of pond. Often they die or if you catch them in time you can put them back in, I lost 2 koi that way. I would suggest anything bigger than my pond can hold 3 or more koi, but I would suggest goldfish instead, stuff like comets and others that have not been inbread to the point of hideous mutations, like the ones with bugged out eyes and giant heads. The comets get beutiful tails that are long and flowing, I have a 5+ year old white one that is just beutiful. |
