Is DIY'ing a UV filter possible? It just looks like a UV bulb in PVC, but is there more to it than that?

I have a 55 gal goldfish tank with perpetual water borne algae problem, with nothing I've tried working to get rid of it (except massive water changes weekly), and putting out $200 for one is a little daunting (also quite out of budget at the moment).

Has anyone tried this or know how these filters work to make designing one possible?

There is a LOT more to it than that. That's why they cost so much.

Darn it...

I figured since the bulbs were so expensive in and of themselves, that was where most of the cost was. oh well, thanks anyway. Wink
