I've read it is possible to make your own fish food? Would there be any advantage to this? Does anyone have a recipe for it? _________________ Chris |

Well, the obvious advantage is that you have total control over what you're feeding: if you want to feed high protein, you can mix it that way, if you want to add lots of color-enhancers, you can do that too. Many people who make there own fish food find that it is somewhat cheaper than premium fish food, but also much messier.
One recipie I know of involves taking a pound of beefheart, raw, and scraping all the fat and connective tissue off. Chop it fine, then blend with a package of frozen spinach, some shrimp or whole fish ( chopped) and a package of unflavored gelatin. add enough water to make a thick mix, then freeze in an ice cube tray. To feed, you just drop a cube in the water.
variations on this recipie call for adding other veggies, powdered spirulina (sp?) and/or packages of algae wafers. |

Hey sherrie, The recipe I use is kinda like that except I powder up some calcium pills in there w/ some various vitaims also. I don't add the gelatin though. Whats that for, does it hold it together?

Has anyone tried a dried food? I was thinking frozen but didn't want it breaking up in the water and not having the fish eat it or not eating much. _________________ "... instead of considering what to say when they write, people now just let thoughts drool out onto the screen," - about e-mail
