I live in the Uk, and find it very difficult to get hold of some decent reflectors.

I intend having some made out of polished folded Aluminium by a metal work company.

The reflectors are for 55W Compact Flourescents
these lights are 22" long.

CAn anyone give advice on a good shape reflector.

Are the AH supply reflectors as good as they say they are ?

Are there better designs to increase intensity.

CAn anyone pleqase give me dimensions and lengths of side of the reflector, and if known the angles so I can have some made up.

Cheers

Mike, the AH Suppy reflectors are extremely efficient and probably every bit a good as their claims.

However, if your more interested in a more custom DIY reflector, an acquaintance of mine, Ralph Garrett, wrote a very good article on Lighting that has some excellent information on DIY reflectors. His article can be found on http://www.aquarience.net. Anyway here is the link to the simply bend convergent style reflector:

Convergent Reflector

And the link to the best design... a Parabolic reflector:

Parabolic reflector

Personally, I finish off my reflectors with mirrored mylar. The aluminum can be sprayed with a spray adhesive and the mylar applied to it. Ralph uses fine grit sandpaper to polish the aluminum, then buffs it to a high mirror type finish using buffing wheels and Tripoli compound.

Cheers,
Steve Very Happy

Thanks Steve for the info.

unfortunately the links were of no use.

I use Power compacts you see, just like AH supply. the 55W ones.

Since I cannot get the reflectors in this country, I was going to have some made.

Ahsupply are 5 sided, wondered if 7 sided for instance was more efficient.

If not I will duplicate the Ah supply ones, But I need help on here for bend angles and lengths of each section for light reflection

Anyone tried to paint the top of the bulbs as a reflector? I've been toying with the idea of high reflective silver paint or some mirror paint.

I used to be a service manager, and dealt with a lighting supplier in Manchester. I bought my electronic ballasts and my twin 55W pc's from them.

I could get more stuff from there is required.

BUT I believe that www.aquatics-online.co.uk sell compact floursecents, or look up Hydroponics in the yellow pages in your area.

It's not the lights that have problems, it getting hold of the reflectors.

Thats why I posted the question, but since no-one has replied with dimensions I cannot get them made. Or made accurately.

I used metal tape, probably found in most hardware stores. Its very shiny and works great.
