My water is hard is there any way to change it so that I can have rams?

Soupa presented the options for lowering your hardness to accomidate Rams. But, I think, before you rush to judgement on whether a particular fish will work with your water, it would be best to know exactly what your parameters are.

As an alternative to Blue Rams, you could go with Bolivians, which are typically hardier and aren't as widely and poorly bred as blues.

One thing that is important to note in the whole Krib/Ram discussion is that the water parameters that Kribs thrive in isn't that far removed from optimal Ram parameters. (You can completely disregard the next part if you already know this). Kribs are west african riverince cichlids, comming from the Niger River and the Congo, where the water is soft and acidic to neutral. It's a failry common misconception that all African Cichlids come from ultra hard water, it is only the rift lake cichlids, also known as East Africans, that live in 'liquid rock'. Granted, Kribs might tolerate hardness better than Rams, but I don't think you'll see them thriving in really hard water either.

If your params work out to be very hard and alkaline, you might want to take a look at shelldwellers.

Hope that helps...
