I am looking to start a saltwater tank and want a protien skimmer, but they are so expensive.Does anyone know how to do a DIY one?

Read and follow these rules first:

I didn't completely follow these rules as mine is a 4" pipe but it is 7 ft tall. I can skim with the $1000 skimmers with it too. If you follow the flow rules on the first link, you will skim great! Also, I'd recommend the whitewater linear piston air pumps to drive it. Much better foam than the tetraluft and DSW series air pumps. In fact those stink and just go with the good pump to start and you'll never never want to buy a retail skimmer. |
