Hello!

I have a mix of flourite and sand in my new 46 gallon tank. I am trying to plant it right now but I huge cloud of flourited dust has risen. I have been performing regular water changes over the past month or two and I rinsed the flourite very thoroughly when I set up the tank a few months back. Is this normal or am I having bad luck?

thanks

even though you wash it...there is usually still dust in the gravel from my experience...If you wanted you could use a siphon and stick it in the gravel to suck up more dust so you won't get as much dust when you plant or disturb the flourite, but there is usually going to be some dust and it will last a while a couple hours to a few days unless you got really good filtration...I got a Fluval 404 in my 20 gallon and it clears up a small cloud of dust in an hour or so...But if it's a newly made tank with new flourite...it will probably make more dust and take more time to clear up.

My 90g that has a flourite substrate took almost 2 weeks to clear up totally, even with an Eheim canister filter as well as two small internal filters that I had lying around.
