I just did a routine water change ( about 15%) and at the same time I cleaned some of the artificial plants in the tank, I also moved the gravel around a bit. I did prety much the same thing I always do, but this time the
water, altough very clear, became reddish, purple almost. Could this be caused by leftover food end poop?

You don't have colored gravel by chance, do you? If so it could be that the color coating is starting to come off the rocks. I had this problem with blue rocks before.

Maybe it is just a bunch of red algae. Try using some algae killer. Cool

Red algae isn't typically a water born thing, it is a surface clinger.

I would strongly advise that you try to narrow the source a bit more before dumping products in your tank.

Can you tell us more about your tank? How long has it been set up? Have you added any driftwood lately? Also, as dr_fosg8 pointed out, it could be gravel, what kind do you have?

The tank has been running for about 18 months, I do have colored gravel
but it's blue, not red. Besides like I said , before the water change and the shuffling of the gravel, my water was perfect. It's still crystal clear but has a red/purple tint to it. Do you think maybee if I add an extra charcoal pack to my ac 300 it would clear it up? The fish don't seem to mind at all....

maybe its the lights? are they flouros? flourescent tubes can go browny red on the ends when they are really old. maybe they are casting the red colour over the tank?

This sounds like my innitel problem when I set up my tank....I did frequent 20-25 changes and changed my filter and it seems to have corrected the problem...when I had the water tested the Ammonia level was also high.
