Posted: 2005.05.10(Tue)12:54 Post subject: where to buy a tank |
|
|
| I have a 10 gallon tank currently that has been up and running for about 6 weeks. I have 6 tetras, a molly and now molly babies. This hobby is so addicting. I was wondering if anyone had any idea where the best place to buy a tank at a good price. I am a college student and I really don't have a lot of extra money, but I would really like to have a bigger tank for freshwater or try my hand at saltwater. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you! |

| Try www.aquabid.com or you could look in classified ads in your local newspaper. Something is bound to come up that you can afford. Good luck. |

| Try the classifieds and try freecycle as well. You can simply post on the local freecycle that you are looking for free fish tanks and equipment and see if anyone wants to give you some for free. |

yeah there was a tank listed on my local freecycle thing about a month ago. My wife does that stuff, she just told me about it. It was a bit to far for me to be able to get so I unfortunatly had to pass on it. |

try your lfs as well...ask them if they have anything used that they might sell you cheap. I'm getting my next killer set-up from my lfs that way. _________________ heck yes I'm back from baghdad |

For new tanks that are not that fancy go to Walmart. They beat all LFS stores I have seen even the large chain ones like petsmart. Freecycle had 2 10g tanks this week but I missed them. Both had filter and hoods which if you buy the package deal at Walmart cost $48. _________________ Honeyrobber(beekeeper) and Killifish lover and ex livebearer breeder(may or may not get back into them now I am disabled and have to much free time) |

| I've also been scouting out www.craigslist.org for a new tank. Craigslist is like online classifieds and people often post "garage sale" type items. I've seen great deals on used aquariums, especially from folks who have to move and are willing to sell stuff cheap. You would just want to make sure the tank didn't leak. |

If there are community flea markets or large scale yard/tag sales in your area, that's always a good option. I actually picked up a 10g for free at one today and had opportunity to buy two others dirt cheap (A 20g long for $5 with all the bells and whistles as well as two other 10s. but alas, am strapped on space until I move into my new house). _________________ Best,
