I noticed some tiny looking what looks to be like black in color, like see through. It looks like tiny tadpols... a body and like a tail....wiggling around. I don't knwo if it's a worm, doesn't look like a worm. They are swimming on top portion of the tank. There's about like 4 or 5.
I don't know what these may be. I don't have a webcam good enough to catch them still. Anyhow...I don't know if they are parasites or what. '
tank has been set up for about a month now. ammonia was at 2.0 , I did a water change and added prime, brought that down to .5 , no nitrites or nitrates.
Pls I don't know what these things could be.
I took out some neon rainbowfish because they are being treated for FLEX. I have 4 cory catfish right now.
Thank you in advance!!! Shocked

Sounds like fry. What kind of fish do you have in the tank?

Hi, thank you for responding so quickly! I'm going crazy. They are swimming mostly on top...I have 4 Panda cory cats and I had 4 neon rainbows, but I had to QT the rainbows for FLEX. Other than that, just the neon rainbows and the Pandas.....
My daughter said she thinks they are fry too, but I wanted to be sure.
I don't know how to take care of fry. What should I do?
I don't have an available tank to keep them. I'm so afraid for them that they might get sucked into the filter! THe cories are obviously swimming on the bottom so I guess they won't get eaten, at least I hope they won't.
Thank you again!!! Embarassed

Wow, did you notice any eggs in the tank at any point? All of the fish you have are egg layers. My guess would be that it's the cories, since rainbows aren't notable for being bred in captivity. How long have the rainbows been in QT?

they've been in QT for 5 days now, going on six. I know before I took them out, they were trying to spawn I think. The mail was acting weird, flaring and having this bright orange strip donw it's back to it's dorsal fin. SO I don't know....but if rainbows havent' been bred in captivity, then probably not.
tha's the thing, I have not noticed any eggs what so ever!!!! Maybe they might not be fry then? Rolling Eyes

Doubtful that they aren't fry.

If your neons were showing breeding behaviour before you moved them, than maybe that is the case. If so, lucky you...

Apparently, they aren't very big when the become free swimming. You might want to google around and see if you can dig up some info. For the time being, until you can track down what is appropriate food for them (I would suggest micro-worms, as baby brine shrimp are too large), you could grind up some flake so it is dust and try feeding them that.

a couple of links that might help

Hope that helps....

Thank you so much for all your advice and help! Thanku also for responding so quickly!!! I really hope they make it through the nite. The filter is pretty strong... Embarassed
I will get a breeder net to put into the tank...I read somewhere about boiled egg yokes?!?!?!
Thank you for the sites, I will take a look at them.
What is a good way to transfer the fry to the breeder net thingy....? Confused
Thank you again!!! you've been so helpful!

You might get some pantyhose or a sponge and rubber band it around the impeller of the filter. That helps.

yea I was thinking of that...The rubber band won't cause the fish or fry any harm? Thank you.
