I wanted to make a volcano out of styrofoam and put a small air stone in it but I was wondering if it was safe to use styrofoam in aquariums and if so what kind of paint would I use on it

People use styrofoam for their backgrounds in the tank so I don't see why not.

Sounds like an interesting idea.

Post some pics when you're done!

It is just hard to sink(takes a lot of weight). My mother did a lot of ceramics. The large Christmas tree top section makes a good volcanoe. You just misshape it while it is green and cut the top off(a bit jagged like you picture the creater) then fire then glaze it then fire the glaze. I found a lot of ceramic molds that could be used or partly used years ago. Not a complete do it yourself project but makes a great volcanoe.
