I have an african dwarf frog (or something like that) in my thirty gallon freshwater aquarium. I am thinking of putting a fiddler crab (freshwater) in my tank, but since my frog sometimes stays at the bottom, I am worried that the crab migh hurt the frog or possibly the other way around. Is it a good idea to keep fiddler crabs and frogs togeather?

crabs are really destructive...I had one go an cut off all the shoots on my lily pad. I think he did it just to spite me. if he catches your froggy napping he might take a snip at it. if you do get a crab, make sure that you find out whether or not he needs air and if so, give him a perch up on the surface. Good Luck!

The kind of crab I want is fairly small and needs no air.

Thanks for the info, but what do you think of this: I hav floting plastic plant that I use for my fries. My frog likes to use those as lily pads sometimes. If I got a crab, could I tie a string on the floating plant so he could climb on it and find land. My invertabrates in the past always loved to climb on that plant, but I've never had crabs.

sounds like a plan. it seems like it'd be pretty entertaining to watch! my crab used to crawl up on top of my lily pads and hang out up there.. maybe something larger than string though, like a plastic plant planted into your substrate whose top would be connected to the floating plant, or maybe some thick twine.

just make sure you get a truely FRESHWATER crab. enjoy your crustacean.
