Hi all, I inherited a mystery fish, now identified as a Red Devil.

I have just moved him from a 20L tank to a 40L tank (still too small I know...). His new tank formerly housed goldfish and it was not completely cleaned before the move. This new tank seems to be infected with some sort of mite(?). These mites are *just* visible to the naked eye, white and about 1.5mm long. I can't see any on Fred or the previous occupants of the tank and he is in excellent health.

When I change his water (1/3 weekly) I get a rash on my wrist which clears up after about 2 hours and the mites then die. Both my parents have suffered the same skin irritation after being in contact with the tank. Any idea what this is? I live in the Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia. Our water is soft and my heater has just started to started to work.
