Sad please help. Last week I purchased 2 powder blue gourami, (just babies) proudly brought them home and placed them in my community tank. All was well until Monday morning of this week. There was a terrible battle over night and one of my honeys was dead (no tail or top fin left) and one of the powder blues has a large gaping hole in her side. Shis is still alive and in the hospital tank. I am medicating with melafix but she is still just lying on the bottom. I put a few flakes in this AM and she did swim a bit and eat. My question is should I try to hellp her heal or should I help her die. I hate to watch her suffer.

If you bought 2 powder blues, that are actually blue then you have 2 males, malte gourami HATE each other and will fight occasionally, I have 2 males that fight constantly, I havent got round to taking him back to the lfs. Try and sperate the injured one, it will be picked on by the rest of the fish as its weaker. Try get your hand on some MelaFix, its great! for open wounds and whole bunch of othr stuff, it will stop infection and help the healing.

Blue gouramis will fight. If I were you, I would keep blue gouramis out of your tank, but pearl gouramis and dwarf gouramis are a nice and peaceful alternative. About your hurt fish, increasing the salinity would reduce the risk of infection forming. The last thing you want is for the gash to turn into an ulcer or get fungus. Feeding her some livefood and plant food would encourage her to eat and increase the chance of recovery. keep treating the tank. Be sure to keep the fish comfortable, and good luck!
