|
|
On several occasions, I've had to keep one fish from the others, in my community tank, usually due to an injury. I was always afraid the weak one would be picked on and killed if I didn't protect it.
I used plastic needlework canvases (purchased in a craft store, a fabric store, or the craft department at WalMart). I used the canvases whole because my tank is 80 gallons but the canvases can easily be cut to the desired dimensions with scissors. I hand stitched the edges together, forming a cube, which was open on one side. The open side faces up in the tank, with the edges above the surface of the water. In my tank, the plants below it held it up, but if you don't have plants that will do that, you can hang the cube from the side of the tank using a hook made from bent wire.
I would post a photo of it if I knew how, but the design is really quite simple, so not seeing it shouldn't really make a difference.
I hope this helps someone save a fish! |

| Hi Suzy, I think that your idea for a DIY isolation box is great! Can you let me know what type of thread you used to stitch the plastic canvas pieces together? KrissyW |

Krissy,
I use a heavy cotton thread because cotton is natural. I've never had fish nibble on it or anything, and I definitely don't leave any 'tails' that they could swallow or get tangled up in.

Suzy
If you go to the photo forum and read the "Announcement: Step-by-step instructions on how to post images here" you'll under stand. I found it a bit intimidating at first but it is quite suprisingly easy
Hope it helps I'd love to see pictures of your Ideas _________________ Glitch your mind so chaos=logic

OK, I'll give it a shot! Stay tuned. If you don't see anything there THIS EVENING (Monday, April 25th) it means I couldn't figure it out. |

I'm sorry, I must be an A-number ONE dunce; I can't find the place to go for instructions on sharing a photo. I see the word 'Announcement' at the bottom of the 'board' page, but it's not 'clickable.' |

Hey there,
The photos of the isolation box and the tube sock for the filter intake will NOT be posted after all; I don't have my images on a website that I can link to, they're only on my computer. If you're interested in seeing the photos, please email me at lsuzanne102@cox.net, and tell me in the subject line who you are, because I don't open mail from unknown senders. I'm sorry for letting you down! |
