I was going to keep as many fish as I can with out over stocking but I tend to like fire mouths and other cichlids that would go with fire mouths

but I don't know the pH for cichlids and other things in that region
Confused so would I need to build rock caves and such things if so what rocks should I use and gravel or sand ? BUT I didn't know that you could use sand in tropical fish tanks I thought it was only for marine fish tanks Confused what is the perfect temperture for cichlids? to

so would it be possible for some infomation on this please

thanks stephen hodgson sorry about all the questions Wink p.s I was also thinking of some rams?? Confused Smile

Well, you'll definitely want to do some specific research on each fish, their needs and compatability.

In general, South American Cichlids do well in water with soft to medium hardness (0-10 dgh) and an acid to neutral pH (6.5-7.0). As far as substrate and decorations go, if you are aiming to match their environment, I would make sure you use sand that doesn't leach hardness, lots of driftwood, and plants or leaf litter (dependent upon which fish).

You'll definitely want to look at which fish you can house in a tank your size (whatever size it is). Also, I would avoid mixing Rams and Firemouths, as their temperments aren't matched.

Anyway, that's a really general and brief overview. What size tank are you planning? What is your water supply like in terms of parameters?
