My cichlid has acquired a clear gash through her head. Most likely due, that I can tell, to the malaysian wood I have in the tank. Its pretty bad, she is still swimming, apparently blind in one eye, but very larthargic. I have moved her into a hospital tank, never had to deal with such a wound. What should I use/do as to quicken healing with little infection and stress. Thank you.

Do you have a picture of it? It possibly could be Hole in the Head disease. What does it look like?

I know what hole in the head is, this is clearly not a disease. Can't take photos. She has also diposited eggs all over the tank now.

What type of fish is she? how big is she? and how big is the tank? also does she share with anyting else? My oscar hurts his head on the bog wood all the time, I had to make his little cave bigger as he was outgrowing it, maybe you should remove the wood?

Parrot cichlid, 3 inch long, 3 loaches as tank mates, 50 gallon.

What I am trying to figure out, lets say her head is crushed, still swimming eating active like it never happened, blind on the gashed side of her head. What type of formula, alt etc.. What can I use to help heal the wound and what type of antibiotics can I use to deter from infection??? Thanks.

hmm...well I couldnt see any of those fish in with him hurting him...its a mystery Shocked what I use for my oscar is a medicine called melafix, I recommend that for healing almost anything, lol, but it does work, the gashes on my oscars head almost disapear overnight! Try that, and tell me how it goes.

heres a link about the product and what the bottle looks like

I would recommend either Melafix or Pimafix. Maybe you could give the parrot a salt bath too.
