Okay this is going to sound Stupid. My Protien Skimmer is like 10 yrs old.
I don't even remember the model. I wondering do you think I should upgrade. If so I am looking at the SeaClone 100. Is it a good model. I will be using an in sump model.

The best advice I can give with regards to changing ANYTHING is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". One of our greatest enemies in marine keeping is change. Shifts in parameters, including nutrient availability for corals in terms of dissolved organics, can cause undesirable changes. So, if it's working for you, there's really no need to change a thing. FWIW, with no mechanical parts and easy cleaning, there's no reason a 10 year old acyrlic cylinder should be considered any less functional than a new one. There have been advances in design otherwise that might prove more efficient, but again, if you don't NEED it, why bother?

If you are getting at least some thick, brown gunk every day your'e doing well, if not then you need to either adjust the unit or upgrade.
Based on what I have read, choose another skimmer for your upgrade.

I agree there is no reason to change skimmers.

However, I like the SeaClone models. To each his own.
