Cichlid, Kuhli, Severum and Plecostomus are IMO the top brutalized fish names in the hobby. For the latter, Plecostamus and Plecostomous and Plecostamous are as staple as fish flakes, but the one below (part of a rejected comment for the Electric Yellow Labido page in the Gallery) has to be the champ for me:

Quote:
Tank mates include 3 elongated yellowish fish with redish fins(forgot there name), one pocostimes and one bottem feeder.

Not a spelling, but a verbalization I heard in the zoo of the word cichlid: "chincilla."

I kid you not. The lady was telling her three kids that some friends of hers had had chincillas like the yellow fish and they were mean. Shocked

Ha ha, there was an article in the paper the other day, and not only did they spell cichlid wrong, but they spelled it several ways. Once they spelled it right, and then they made a little dyslexic mistake and wrote, "cichlid," and for the rest of the article they put "chiclets." I had to laugh at it. Who thinks it makes people look twice as dumb when they use more than one wrong spelling of a word in the same writing? Wink

I personally had a brain fart a week or two ago and called my bristlenose pleco a bushynose. What the heck?

This one isn't about fish, but I received a resume the other day, and one of this person's past jobs was in an editing department. In that very section, she had this sentence summarizing her responsibilities in the job: "Responsible for deli gating proof work." Oh, the irony.
