Hi, I'm getting a 20g Long tank and I was wondering how much gravel I needed to buy if I wanted to plant it? How many pounds would I need? Any help would be appreciated!

It might get a little pricey. But that is what I exactly have for my 20 gallon tank. 20 pounds of gravel! You'll need it Wink

At the fish stores that I go to, it's 2-3 dollars for 1lb!

While gravel will work for a planted tank to some extent I think you would be better of going with Fluorite, Onyx or Eco Complete as a substrate. It is more expensive but is leaps and bounds over using plain aquarium gravel. Your plants will thank you Smile

I use regular river type gravel in my tank and going to set up a second tank. You feel this substrate did make a difference with your plants?
I have no problem with the money but I don't want a reddish tinge to the water (think clay does that).
Which of those 3 types do you use any input ,advice on those substrates would be great.
thanks.
