I recently noticed Sodium thiosulfate available at gregwatson.com

It was touted as the active ingredient for neutralizing chlorine as seen in commercial products.

Does anyone have experience with this chemical? Are there other active ingredients that you would miss out on by using this instead of commercial products?

No you can use that no problem. I don't know what the dosage is though although you can save a lot of money on water dechlorinators with it because you can buy in bulk and a little goes a long way. Might want to check into the whole chlorine and chloramine situation as well.

I found a couple of excellent sites on the topic.

http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/water/chlorine.shtml (the most helpful IMO)
http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_chlorine.htm

It turns out that 1 gram of crystals creates 1 Litre of 1% solution that will treat chlorine at a rate of 1 drop per gallon of untreated water. Greg Watson didn't list a quantity, and I assume it's not 1lb like the fertilizers. However, at $2.60 Canadian, it is sure to be a ridiculous steal in comparison to store bought dechlorinators!

Here's a topic where neutralizing chlorine and chloramines with sodium thiosulfate was covered.
