I always thought it would be nice to make a real looking rock background.
I have seen them and there is companies that sell them but they cost a arm and a leg. Just think what it would cost for my 700gallon tank 4' by 6"6" background.I have seen them made out of foam but they don't that great plus foam floats.
I've always thought of making one out of fibeglass and have been looking on the internet how to make a background and stumbledacross this site where this guy has made one and it look nice.

no offence or anything but that background looks pretty dodgy. Confused

I have seen better DIY backgrounds than that. Cool

No it doesn't rot out because they cover it with something, some kind of resin I think.

The problem with that first one is that it is a negative of the actual rocks (it's backwards!). If he would have used the background he has for a mold and cast a background off of it, it would probably be awesome.

So how does the water get back to the power filter? Does it go under, over, beside, or through the styrofoam? I'm sure it works, just curious as to how?
