was the live rock labled cured or uncured? how old is your tank, did you cycle your aquarium. if you didn't your fish is in a amazing amount of stress due to the high levels of ammonia and nitrite that are most likely pressent in your tank water. also the fish is most likely to suffer a life with damaged gills and his life will be shortened.

Well yes, that's why they call it live rock!
Your rock is likely covered with delicate encrusting micro inverts; sponges, tube worms, cnidarians, flat worms, clams/oysters/mollusks, etc. as well as possibly harboring things bad for your fish like mantis shrimp or pathogens/parasites (hopefully not, but it happens all the time) Your live rock will need food/proper water chemistry to keep it growing not declining (shades of the old pet rock here) so continue your research for long term benefits/success.

Are these circular fan growths? Flipping through a book last night, I remember seeing something like what you described, and they were a type of worm. I even saw some on the Live Rock at the LFS.

not surprised peppermint shrimp are scavengers and if its ediable for them they'll eat it and some of the things on your live rock would have probably looked like snacks.

Sounds like baby feather dusters on your live rock.

Aiptaisia or Feather duster. Probably aiptaisia since your shrimp ate them--which is harmful--look up some photos and compare them. Your shrimp should take care of the problem.
