I found this funny, disturbing, and odd at the same time. I went to a lfs asked for guppys as pets they showed me some for 60cents a piece. I asked for feeder fish they showed me the same tank only this time it was a dollar a dozen.

in that case, if I wanted the guppies, I think I would ask for the feeders.

there so cheap because you can breed them VERY VERY easily and the babies are easy to grow! I am not surprised at all. some fancy guppies like the ones with very colouful tails ect are more expensive

I grabbed a dozen. It was a mix of all different kinds of guppies. I got a few fancy guppies and I also got a few assorted mollies. It's kind of like a grab bag of fish.

Bear in mind that fish sold as "feeders" often have a higher chance of being in poor health as a result of being raised in cramped and subpar conditions. Everybody's looking to save a few bucks, myself included, but at the very least I would advise at least a four-week period of quarantine before introducing them into your main tank(s).

When I bought them it was about a year ago, when I set up my first tank. I used them to cycle the tank I still have three. I would not buy them again now that I've learned a bit more. I just thought it was funny that they tried to sell them either way. The price depended on how you reffered to them. If you wanted them for pets you paid more. I'm actually wondering if that violates any sort of law.

HAHAHA what did they take you for an idiot? omg thats funny, I got it on the first read Wink . I always thought it was funny that id see fancy guppies, zebra danios, common goldfish, etc sold for really cheap as feeders but sold for way more when they were sold as pets. but showing you the same tank of fish for both purposes with different prices is just too funny.

At one of my lfs's, in the feeder tank, its 10 cents each, 50 cents each if you pick them out.

Well, if I'M the one who has to fish a single guppy out of 1000 guppies, I better get to charge you more.

The first post however sounds quite obsurd.
