"Catfish Hunter" the fish that they tell stories about in The "Grumpy Old Men" movies. At the end of the 2nd movie, they catch and release him so you actually get to see him do some acting.

Pee-Wee Herman had a fish tank with 2 fish that were recurring characters on Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Abraham: Arnold's goldfish on Different Strokes

There was a 70's horror/comedy movie called "Piranha"....guess what it was about.

There are team mascots....Florida Marlins, San Jose Sharks...

Flats the Flounder...a bully in a Spongebob episode
Mrs. Puff: Spongebob's teacher...lots of fish in spongebob

How about the famous (or infamous) Big Mouth Billy Bass...the singing rubber fish that hangs on the wall?

If you want to count sharks...there was the killer land shark thing on Saturday Night Live. And "Deep Blue Sea" had a bunch of killer sharks in it.

OK, that's about it for now, but I'm sure there's more to come.

*LOL* I saw Piranha 2 laaaaate one night yeeears ago on tv... it was about piranha's that had been hybridised with.....

Flying fish!!! Laughing

ROTFLMAO!

Cue scenes of mayhem as people start dying IN THE HOTEL.... funnily enough it was always the cute blonde having a shower/ going for a skinnydip -'70's soft porn meets horror!! Definitely one of the sillier movies I've seen.

Oh, and The Big Fish from Big Fish

Well...that sums it up pretty well....take a look at the movie poster, it matches your description exactly :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078087/posters

Here's a few more fishies in entertainment, although they're not so famous:

Bill Murray had a goldfish that he carried around in a jar in "What About Bob?" I think it had a name but I don't remember. Oscar, maybe....not too sure.

There was a South Park episode where there were demonic pets from the pet store, which was built on top of sacred ground. Stan's killer pet fish was a main focal point.
