crayfish around here don't need it, But I'm not so sure w/ the blue lobster, like most of the fish a little salt is OK, but this guy is doing fine, I can't figure out what he is eating now though. he was taking the frozen shiners that I was feeding him, but it seems as though he quit that.

looks like the crayfish are eating his shiners, so maybe its the blue lobster that is eating the fish, I hope he likes platies, I can deal with losing thoes, I orignally baught them to feed the bluegill, but he wasent interested in them.

I just asumed it from that simpsons episdoe where homer puts the lobester in the fish tank & when he adds salt the fish almost die & when he adds water the lobster almsot dies so he has got to balance it

thats kinda worrying marto. I do hope you don't care for all your fish with simpsons derived information.
mind you I have no idea about the lobster, you could be right with that bit.

true lobsters live in the ocean so yes they would need salt. but true lobsters wouldn't be sold for freshwater tanks.

I think they sell blue lobsters at petco in my area they don't have ANY salt in them - kinda deciving they place a lobster in a frog carrier and place the whole thing in a community tank so that the lobster has water but cannot get the fish - just remember juts because it isnt eatting any of your "good fish" ( and I think plattys are good fish) dosent mean it will not learn to get faster and grow bigger to catch all your fish my cousin had a 55 gal tank and had a crayfish in it 2 days later their where no fish haha but a fat crayfish he started out with about 10 small/med fish and now it is only the crayfish so to who said it was crayfish + fish = crayfish you are totaly CORRECT! cheers and good luck -

ps I don't think wait I mean don't put him in a frog carrier and put the thing in the tank I currently have a letter to Petco about their misuse about their lobsters

I completely ovelooked the fact that you have a severum in there with platies Shocked are you using them as feeders? I would strongly suggest either going with larger fish like a school of glass cats and the severum or sticking to the peaceful tetra/platy combo. eventually the severum will eat the smaller inhabitants. your glass cat would be much happier with some buddies as well. with a tank that size your severum should be very happy but everything else will definetely not be if you miss a feeding Confused
