I'm thinking of a 2.5 gallon tank... possiably a hex or rectangluar tank.

I was thinking of a couple of simple plants, a small cave made out of rocks and adding one Betta and a handful of Ghost Shrimps. I was wondering also, what about just having two Lepoard Cories and nothing else? Would this tank be to small for just 2 by themselves? I would think so... but any opinions or advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, what kind of filter should I use for such a small tank? I won't be able to go to crazy with water changes, other than maybe scooping the water out once a week and maybe doing a vac of the gravel once a month. So, would an undergravel filter work out OK?

I think a couple of White Clouds would be a good choice. You can keep Corydoras in small tanks, but it would be better to keep them in a rectangular aquarium rather than a a hexagonal one. Will the tank be glass or acrylic?

An Eclipse system 3 is a nice small tank, all self-contained. I have one and it is very easy to maintain, and looks good because you don't see a lot of hardware hanging around all over the tank.

here is a picture of one on sale for under $40 which I think is a pretty good deal.

It's a good system for your idea of a betta and some ghost shrimp with a few plants.

Great, I am going to go with the Eclipse System 3. I saw those for sale at Pet Supplies Plus! Is that bio wheel reliable?

Also, what about 1 betta, 2 white clouds, and 4 Ghost Shrimps? Of course, a couple of plants... one small anubias and one Pigmy Chain sword and a couple a few rocks (to make a cave for the shrimps)?

I don't know how the white clouds will do in that setup, since it will be a bit warmer than what they prefer, and it's a small space. My experience with white clouds in a small space is that one will dominate and prevent others from having access to food.

I really like the biowheel, it's very effective. Once established, you can tear down and clean the entire tank and filter if necessary (except the biowheel media) without any loss of biofiltration.
