Anybody have fantails in their pond?

Fantails can do well in a pond provided they are not too round bodied. If you use longer bodied fantails, the tails don't slow them down all that much.

In my family's pond, we have had comets for 5 years - ever since the pond was built. However, fantails we have introduced have never done well. The longest they have survived is 2 years, and most died within months. Their is plenty of natural food in the pond, as it is at a low point is our yard and lots of stuff falls into it. The fantails just don't seem to be as hardy, possibly because of the excessive inbreeding used to produce them.
