Nice thread SLACKra

I am planning on starting a marine reef with a few fish soon.

I read on nano-reef.com that you should not put protein skimmer in those. what do you think?
And another... whats a good ratio for sump to main tank volume?

And finally, what online resources would you suggest for salt water? I like nano-reef.com but they don't have a nice gallery the way we have one here for fresh water fishes and plants.

thanks

personally I think a protien skimmer is a must in any saltwater aquarium. try reefcentral.com its a great site. have you completely explored nano-reef? they have a fish gallery with fish recomended for a nano and a small coral gallery.

cheers

andrew

the calerpa in my tank is growing VERY fast I am going to do my first harvest of it soon. the clownfish is eating well and has already accepted food from my hand. looking into getting better lighting preferably a 70watt metal halide.

cheers

calerpa taxifolia is going to be declared a weed in victoria australia on november the 11th(or tenth) and their will be a 90 day amnesty to remove it from your tanks. first punishment is 10,000 fine then 20,000. so I got rid of most of the c. taxifolia. tank looks really barron. looking into gettting a yellow clown gobie for the tank.

cheers

now noticing active growth of my zooanthus and my palythoa colonies. also notice small encrusting sps that must have hitchhiked on my palythoa colony. my prism skimmer was acting up but I got it working again. ponder the idea of upgrading the tank to a 16"x12"x12" tank and adding a micro chiller and halide lighting if I unsetup my 32g planted.

cheers

Sounds like a very cool setup. Have you got any pictures of it?

actually its an OK setup. main prob is I got terrrible lr. my new saying is "live rock can break or make a tank". the tank got to 28 maybe 29 so instead of freaking out(as the ocupants seemed fine I added about 12-17 cubes of ice the temp when down to 26 then rose to 27'C. going to probably buy a comp fan to put over the lighting to keep that cool then invest in the chiller. then I will look into other things. I guess my 32g won't be decomisioned soon.

cheers

I heard that just setting up a regular fan blowing on the water will cool it down 3-5 degrees C. but on the other hand it also increases evaporation which would make salinity fluctuate....
