hey everyone. I am going to be starting my first marine tank pretty soon and needed some advice. I have a cichlid tank and a community tank and now I would like to try saltwater. I'll be converting my 55 gallon freshwater to a saltwater and my question is what will I need? I've heard about wet/dry filteration, protein skimming and under ground filteration. are a protein skimmer and under ground filter necessary? what kind of lighting should I have? I will probably just have fish, snails, ect for a while but hope to put in corals and other things eventually. thank you for your help! Very Happy

Hi, I think before you start you should get a book and read about saltwater setup's there are many good books out there, like for instance no under ground filter is needed, live rock and a live substright will do fine, you must have the right lighting if your going to keep corals, but above all you must go slow, try this---- http://www.reefcorner.com/reef%20keeping_101.htm the thing is you must read!!, hope this helps. Smile
