I have a 40 gallon breeder tank its 36x18x18 I was just wondering if I have too much light. I currently have over 180 or 90 watts of light at the moment. my polyp corals seem to love the acintic lighting they open up and have full color but whenever the 10000 k light comes on they retract their polyps a little bit and close up and some even look like they have sunburn from the light. also the coraline algae doesn't seem to be growing at all near the top of the tank actually it seems to be dying. can anyone add anything.

Some polyps and mushrooms are actually lower light corals. Depeinding on the light hi output types that throw a lot of heat can actually sunburn corals and fish. Try moving your corals a little lower or in a shadier area. Or have you tried putting fans under your lights? This is usually done especially for vho and mh lighting. 3-4 watts per gallon is good for the type of corals you are describing.
